3333University of Macau Hengqin Campus

The University of Macau (UM), the only public university in the city, is building a 6 billion yuan ($878.5 million) campus on Hengqin Island. UM has more than 6,000 students, and nearly 400 faculty members from all over the world. Six of ten faculty members hold doctorate degrees. The university has colleges of Business Administration, Education, Law, Social Sciences & Humanities, Science & Technology, and the Institute of Chinese Medicine.

444The Regulatory Plan of Hengqin New Area extends through 2020. The objective is to convert Hengqin into an open island interconnecting Hong Kong and Macau within 10 to 15 years of 2010. The island will become ideal for business start-ups and residence, offer intensive knowledge facilities and abundant information technology. It also would become an ecological island with resource and energy conservation plus environmental friendliness.
