Spirits enlivened at Hongqi (Red Flag) Village in Hengqin

One of the nine longtime villages on Hengqin Island, Hongqi, also known as Treasure or Red Flag, today has creative spaces for photo-taking, dining, and lodging, among them, a “Most Beautiful” bookstore, Food Street, and characteristic rural B&Bs.

Rainbow Stairway

Rainbow Stairway with vivid colors on the northern side is the most prominent colored-painted architecture in Hongqi Village.

The southern side of Rainbow Stairway has patterns from Vincent van Gogh’s creation, The Starry Night.

Xiangsi (Lovesickness) Waterfall

Xiangsi Waterfall off Tianhe Street is a natural cascade on Naobei Mt. A garden at the foot of the mountain displays exquisite landscape. Koi in the pond add more vitality to the scenery.

Nearby, stone carving in Portuguese is the first historical relic found on Hengqin Island and provides evidence of a direct relationship between the island, Portugal, and Macao.

Shusheng Hall of Xinhua Bookstore

Shusheng Hall of Xinhua Bookstore is named one of Zhuhai’s “Most Beautiful Bookstores.” Oyster shell walls on either side of the entrance reflect Hengqin characteristics.

The bookstore has a collection of more than 100,000 volumes in 30,000 categories. Also exhibited are a variety of cultural and creative products.

Hengqin Ferry Terminal

Hengqin Ferry Terminal is opposite Hongqi Village on East Huandao Road. Sightseers can take photos with the oyster harvest sculptures, the lighthouse, and against a backdrop of picturesque coastal scenery and Macao.

Visitors entertain themselves at interactive experience facilities or a seaside restaurant, stroll around, or enjoy drinks at evenings by the sea.

Distinctive B&Bs

B&Bs with individual styles are all over the village and offer mountain or sea views. Murals on the exterior walls of the homestays reflect their styles.

Forest-themed murals at this B&B simulate the habitat of animals in a forest.

Food Street

Hengqin Pedestrian Street, which is also Food Street in Hongqi Village, is situated between Yinhe Street and Baozhong Road.

Food stall attracts customers with its famous spicy Laksha Noodles.

At nighttime, bustle on the street lasts until early hours with folks enjoying various dishes, snacks, drinks, seafood, and more.
