A promotional event of The Hengqin International Sci-Tech Innovation Competition for Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking Countries (HISIC) was held in Angola on August 5, as organisers sought to attract innovation projects and strengthen technological cooperation between China and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries.
The event was jointly organised by the Chinese Embassy in Angola and the Industrial Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with Huawei Angola as the host. Held in a hybrid format, the event brought together around 150 representatives from Angolan government agencies, universities, research institutions, business associations, technology companies and the media. The main venue was located at Huawei'stechnology park in Angola, with an online session held in Hengqin.
The roadshow introduced Hengqin's innovation ecosystem, industrial opportunities and support policies, while presenting the competition'sapplication requirements, key sectors and related services. Participants also discussed potential cooperation opportunities during a Q&A session.
Launched as the first sci-tech innovation competition in China exclusively targeting Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries and regions, HISIC focuses on areas including artificial intelligence and modern agriculture. The competition aims to connect innovation projects, talent and resources across borders and help promising projects explore opportunities in the Chinese market.
Organisers said the promotion in Angola builds on growing cooperation between Hengqin and the country. A Hengqin delegation visited Angola in 2025, when both sides reached a number of agreements to strengthen collaboration.
