Festive events fuel travel surge in Hengqin

During the 2026 National Day holiday, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin launched cultural and tourism activities, helping drive over 403,800 visitors, up 7.76 percent year on year.

Two exhibitions at Hengqin Cultural and Art Center added to the holiday appeal. The “Shaanxi Glory” Cultural Relics Exhibition, featuring cultural relics such as Terracotta Warriors, attracted nearly 85,000 visitors. The Hengqin Special Exhibition at the China Airshow Weaponry  Hall, which features themed exhibitions, immersive interactive experiences, and cultural and creative displays, drew about 86,000 visitors.

The “Catch The Wind Life Festival” returned this year with diverse lifestyles, featuring art parades, immersive theater, and Macao’s intangible cultural heritage “Portuguese folk dance”. It set up nearly 60 Greater Bay Area food, cultural and creative stalls, and offered activities, including camping and concerts.

Hengqin’s major ecological public spaces received over 57,000 visitors during the holiday, including Flower Sea Corridor, Xiaohengqin Mountain Trail, Hengqin National Wetland Park, and Mangzhou Wetland Park.

Hengqin Huafa Mall hosted the 7th Guangdong-Macao Cultural and Food Tour & Macao International Food Festival (Hengqin), boosting mall foot traffic by 21 percent year on year, with Hong Kong and Macao visitors accounting for over 50 percent. The newly opened Tianmu Qintai commercial area recorded 150,000 visits during the holiday.

Chimelong Spaceship Park in Hengqin launched the world’s first large-scale embodied AI theme park, with embodied intelligent robots participating in performances, science education, and interactive experiences. Sumlodol Hengqin Camping Town launched a “Sky Theater” made up of 800 drones, paired with nighttime activities including intangible cultural heritage fire performances, and bonfire parties.

Driven by the holiday surge, Hengqin Port handled over 936,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips and over 93,000 vehicle crossings during the holiday, up 27.9 percent and 25.8 percent year on year, respectively. Single-day passenger flow exceeded 150,000 on October 4, setting a new record for the port. 

Tourists traveling to Macao via Hengqin Port reached 395,000, up 41.4 percent year on year. Hong Kong and Macao residents entering and exiting through Hengqin Port exceeded 236,000, up 21.8 percent from the previous year.
