On October 13, the Livelihood Affairs Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Health Bureau of the Macao SAR Government held a launch ceremony for cross-border medical data sharing at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University Hengqin Hospital (FAHGMU Hengqin Hospital). FAHGMU Hengqin Hospital officially joined Macao’s electronic health record platform (eHR) and became the first medical institution to be included in the platform in Guangdong.

Launched in 2022, the eHR platform enables data sharing among nine medical institutions. As of October 13, it has covered 10 medical institutions in Hengqin and Macao, including the Health Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Macao Union Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and FAHGMU Hengqin Hospital.

In May 2024, FAHGMU Hengqin Hospital established a cross-border referral mechanism and mutual recognition of medical imaging results for Macao residents. In 2025, the hospital and Conde de São Januário General Hospital  set up a joint specialist outpatient clinic. In May this year, the two sides established the Hengqin-Macao Joint Training Center in Family Medicine . The launch of the cross-border medical data channel has expanded cooperation between Hengqin and Macao from specialist medical services and talent training to medical data sharing.

Macao residents can access their health records in both Macao and Hengqin via the “My Health” page in the “Macao One Account” App. Doctors with authorization of the platform can access Macao residents’ health records in accordance with regulations, and review their medical treatment in Macao and Hengqin.

To use the eHR cross-border sharing function, Macao residents should first consent in the “Macao One Account” App to transferring data from Guangdong medical institutions to Macao. When visiting a medical institution in Guangdong, they should scan a QR code or generate a one-time verification code via the “Macao One Account” App, then confirm their consent before doctors can access their medical data. Medical data is stored at the Macao SAR Government’s cloud computing center and managed in accordance with relevant regulations.

Since Cooperation Zone’s establishment, there has been a notable increase in the number of medical visits by Macao residents in Hengqin. As of August 2026, Macao residents had made over 70,000 visits to public medical institutions in the Cooperation Zone.
