From October 31 to November 2, the Greater Bay Area Science Forum 2026 was held in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. At the opening ceremony on November 1, representatives of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, together with representatives from relevant Guangdong and Macao government departments and universities, signed the Framework Agreement on Joint Funding for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratories.

A total of 35 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint laboratories are currently in operation. Among them, the Guangdong-Macao Joint Laboratory for Modular Chip Design and Testing in Hengqin, approved in 2024, is the first such laboratory led by a Macao institution.

In recent years, the Cooperation Zone has supported Macao universities in establishing industry-academia-research bases in Hengqin through policy measures. Macao universities have built over 30 joint university-enterprise laboratories in the Cooperation Zone and implemented over 600 science and technology innovation and research projects of various types, achieving notable progress in research breakthroughs and results transformation.
