On the afternoon of August 14, authorities from the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Zhuhai government held the first joint meeting of 2025 to further expand cooperation between Zhuhai and Hengqin.

Located at the southern tip of Zhuhai, the Cooperation Zone faces Macao across a narrow stretch of water. With advancing policy coordination and institutional alignment, the Cooperation Zone, in collaboration with Zhuhai, has been creating favorable conditions to promote Macao's development.

Cheong Weng Chon, Director of the Executive Committee of the Cooperation Zone, stated that the zone will advance Macao's economic diversification by driving industrial synergy, accelerating infrastructure development, and enhancing collaboration with Zhuhai on public services. Internationally, it aims to establish an overseas investment mechanism to boost growth in tourism, comprehensive health care services, R&D, and related sectors, while expanding markets through the integration of airport and port economies.

Wu Zetong, Mayor of the People's Government of Zhuhai Municipality, Guangdong Province, stated that Zhuhai will support the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin by jointly building the Western Pearl River Delta International Aviation Hub, promoting transport connectivity, aligning policies and institutions, and ensuring quality living and employment for residents of Hengqin and Macao.

Meanwhile, Zhuhai will fully leverage its strengths in industrial capacity to enhance joint investment promotion. Cooperation will deepen in emerging sectors, including the low-altitude economy, artificial intelligence, and marine economy, supporting the growth of the Cooperation Zone’s four major industries: sci-tech research and high-end manufacturing, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), cultural tourism, convention and exhibition, and modern finance.

During the meeting, progress on action items from the Zhuhai-Hengqin leadership coordination sessions was presented, key issues in education and transportation were reviewed, and a joint investment promotion strategic cooperation agreement was signed.
