August 18 marked the fifth anniversary of the opening of the new inspection area at Hengqin Port. Over the past five years, the port has processed more than 75.64 million inbound and outbound travelers.

Hengqin Port serves as the gateway between the Macao SAR and the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, located in the southwest of Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province.

From January 1 to August 16, 2025, Hengqin Port handled an average of 76,946 cross-border travelers per day, which is 1.88 times more than before the new inspection area opened in 2019. Daily vehicle crossings averaged 8,840, including 5,810 Macao single-plate vehicles, nearly double and 10.74 times higher, respectively.

On May 2, the port set a new record for the highest single-day traveler volume of 128,400. On July 19, the highest-ever single-day vehicle volume reached 10,500. Among the travelers, Macao residents accounted for 27.1%, while visitors, non-local university students, and non-resident employees made up 40%, 16.1%, and 16.2%, respectively.

On August 18, 2020, the new inspection area of Hengqin Port officially opened, with the Macao Lotus Port relocated to Hengqin. The innovative "Joint Inspection, One-time Release" clearance model was introduced, reducing average clearance time to just 20 seconds.

Meanwhile, a series of traveler-friendly policies, such as "Frequent Traveler channels," "Hengqin-Macao Tour Groups," and "Multiple-entry Permit," further reduce cross-border travel costs and promote integration of cultural and industrial development between Hengqin and Macao.
